Inter Miami played the second leg of their Concacaf Champions league match versus Nashville on Thursday. Nashville fans tried to put Messi off during the encounter but Messi’s response to rival fans chanting Ronaldo’s name has gone viral.

The first leg of the tie ended in a draw with Inter Miami having to come from behind to draw the game. They were down by two goals before Messi and Suarez pulled them back on level terms. The game was perfectly poised going into the second leg.

What happened during the game?

With all to play for at the Chase stadium, Nashville fans wanted to do everything to put off Messi who has been rested prior to the game.

It took all of eight minutes for Messi to make his mark, sliding Suarez in behind the Nashville defense. He side footed home to send Nashville one nil up.

It was obvious that Inter Miami were on the ascendancy and Messi was behind most of their attacking play. The Nashville fans started chanting Ronaldo’s name to put him off his game.

Messi’s response to rival fans chanting Ronaldo’s name was epic. He pounced on a loose ball after a forward run from Gomez to shoot home. His goal, Inter Miami’s second of the game silenced the Nashville fans.

Another goal from Taylor sealed the contest even though Nashville pulled one back at the death.

Messi’s response to the taunts of Nashville fans have now drawn comparison with that of Ronaldo. Ronaldo was taunted by Al Hilal fans but his response led to him being suspended.

Messi and Inter Miami are now through to the next round of the Concacaf Champions league. The win also ends a two game winless run which ended in their 3-2 loss in the league last time out.
