On Sunday, February 11, Nigeria will participate in their first AFCON final since 2013.
Winger Samuel Chukwueze believes it’s high time the Super Eagles won their fourth AFCON championship, and they will take on the hosts, Ivory Coast, in that match.
The final, which is a rematch of the Group A encounter, Jose Peseiro’s team is the favorite. On Sunday, the 2013 winners, who are unbeaten in the competition, hope to maintain their lead.
They were put to the test by a formidable South African team in the semifinal, but according to CAF, Stanley Nwabali’s outstanding goalkeeping helped them prevail in the penalty shootout.
The winger for AC Milan, Chukwueze, says they are all focused on the final now that the semi-final festivities have concluded.
I believe in this team, we have been fighting from the start of the competition, it’s time to bring the trophy back home,” Chukwueze told the Super Eagles media.
“We have talked together as a group, we will keep working hard in training and ensure we win the trophy.”
Nigeria will play an Ivory Coast team that has advanced to the championship over all odds. As a result, the Super Eagles will face challenges. The Elephants’ will to never give up could break the tie.
