Chelsea include Edouard Mendy in FIFA Club World Cup squad

Chelsea team and staff have travelled to Abu Dhabi for the Club World Cup, with a 24-man squad, surprisingly including Edouard Mendy, who just won the AFCON with his nation, Senegal.

Chelsea managed to squeeze a win over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday in the FA Cup clash, keeping themselves a available to cling all competition.

The Club World Cup is a chance for Chelsea to add another trophy to there already filled cabinet.

A statement on Chelsea’s website read: “A total of 23 players has made the journey, with Edouard Mendy due to join up later. He competes in the Africa Cup of Nations final later today, with Senegal taking on Egypt.

“Chelsea’s first game is on Wednesday when we will take on the winners of today’s match between Al Hilal and Al Jazira, respectively the Asian Champions League winners and the local representatives from Abu Dhabi.”

Chelsea won’t play until the semi-final on Wednesday February 9th with kickoff to be at 4:30pm UK time.

The second match and the tournament’s conclusion is on Saturday 12 February, when there will be a third-place play-off at 1pm followed by the final at 4.30pm.

Eduoard Mendy just won the African Cup Of Nations with Senegal and was named Best Goal Keeper of the tournament.
