FIFA are now considering a new ‘Game Clock’ rule that would see game time get paused when ball goes out of play in football, to reduce time wastage.
This is coming after FIFA instructed fourth officials to keep track of time to combat time-wasting at the 2022 World Cup. This saw the competition produce the longest games ever played in a single competition.
In a bid to maximize playtime, FIFA are strictly considering introducing the new rule.
The Game Clock rule was first proposed by FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, and it is targeted at putting an end to time-wasting during matches. The International Football Association Board meeting will be held in London the following weekend, where the possibilities of the new rule will be discussed.
What do you think about the new Game Clock rule, will it improve our game or detriment it? Let’s know in the comment.
