Juventus legend, Giorgio Chiellini has backed Harry Maguire who has been under lots of criticisms in recent months.

Maguire holds the record for the most expensive defender in football history after his €80m move from Leicester City to Manchester United in 2019.

The England international has since failed to live up to the expectations in the eyes of fans who looked up to him following his expensive transfer.

Since the arrival of Harry Maguire, Manchester United has been in it’s struggling phase and they’ve not been able to match the standards of the team in the past eras.

Since the arrival of new boss, Erik ten Hag, Harry Maguire has failed to make the first team squad and has settled to be on the bench.

Chiellini who now plays for Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer has thrown his weight behind Maguire who has suffered a long run of criticisms.

The former Italy international said because of the fee Manchester United paid for him, he’s expected to be the best in the world in every match.

“I am sad for Maguire’s situation because he is a good player. They require too much of him. Just because they paid £80million for him, he has to be the best in the world every match? It’s not right.”

Maguire has earlier said the news about him were for clicks because he’s the captain of Manchester United and it’s going to make big news.

Harry Maguire has lost every match he started for both club and country this season.
