Granit Xhaka loses second Europa league final in five years after Atalanta ended their unbeaten run in the final.
Xhaka and Arsenal faced Europa league heart break in the 2019 final in baku, losing 4-1 to Chelsea. They can’t be blamed however as not many teams come up against Eden Hazard when he is having a field day and survive.
Arsenal were just unfortunate to come up against an interested Hazard in the final at the Olympic Stadium in Baku.
Bayer Leverkusen, and Xhaka again, traveled to the Aviva stadium in Dublin hoping to make things right. They however came up against an Ademola Lookman inspired Atalanta side and faced a rout.
Ademola Lookman has faced two final heartbreaks already this season and he simply took it out on Leverkusen.
Remember this is a Bayer Leverkusen side that no one has successfully gotten the better of this season. The same Bayer Leverkusen side that found it comfortable coming from two goals down to draw or win games thus season.
Two first half goals was all it took for Atalanta to put it all to bed. Lookman netted another to complete his hat trick in the second half, becoming the first African player to score more than once in a major European competition final.
The result also means Bayer Leverkusen’s 51 match unbeaten run ends.
