Haaland equals Messi’s Champions League goal record

Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland have equalled a long standing Champions League goal record held by Lionel Messi during his time at Barcelona.

The Cityzens welcomed German team, RB Leipzig for the second leg of their round of sixteen Champions League clash having played 1-1 in the first leg in Germany.

The match went in the way of Pep team with Erling Haaland getting a first half hat-trick. The second half produced a further 3 goals, ending the match in a 7-0 scoreline and 8-1 on aggregate. Haaland got 2 goals in the second half, taking his tally to 5.

Haaland 5 goals makes him the second player in history to score 5 goals in a Champions League knockout game, since Lionel Messi scored 5 in Barcelona 7-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen in the 2011/12 Champions League round of sixteen.

He also became the youngest player to score 30 Champions League goal, breaking a record formerly held by Kylian Mbappe. The Norwegian now have 32 Champions League goals in 25 appearances.
