Hair of God is trending after the switch of goal ownership from Cristiano Ronaldo to Bruno Fernandes as Portugal gets the best of Uruguay.
Portugal faced Uruguay in their second group stage game of the World Cup, defeating the South American nation by two goals and securing their place in the knockout stage of the World Cup.
Two goals from Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes was enough to give Portugal all three points but the state of the first goal got the attention of football fans.
Portugal first goal was thought to be from a header by Cristiano Ronaldo who already celebrated. After a closer look, the goal was awarded to Bruno Fernandes who made the cross.
FIFA announced the goal was given to Bruno Fernandes, causing an uproar between fans on social media.
After the match, fans took a closer look at the images from Ronaldo’s header and discovered his hair had a contact with the ball, they immediately started trending “Hair of God,” emulating Diego Maradona famous hand of God.
Maradona scored a goal with his hand in a World Cup match against England and in a post match interview tagged the goal “Hand of God.”
Fans are seeking FIFA take a relook of the goal and award it Ronaldo while opposition fans are accusing Ronaldo of celebrating after stealing a goal.
Ronaldo is such a role model. First he had his hair of God goal taken from him & awarded to Bruno Fernandes. Then he gets subbed off & Bruno scores Portugal's second from the spot. And yet, look at him. Still very supportive. I know who the real 🐐 is now#PORURU pic.twitter.com/Ahy6Jv0LTL
