Harry Maguire accepts apology from Ghanaian politician who mocked him during budget debate

Man United defender Harry Maguire, has accepted an apology from MP Adongo, a Ghanaian politician who mocked him during a budget debate last year.

In a parliament budget debate shared widely on social media last year, opposition politician Isaac Adongo compared Harry Maguire, who he described as “the biggest threat at the centre of the Manchester United defence,” to the Ghanaian Vice-president.

The reference to Maguire was part of a speech accusing Ghana’s Vice-president Mahamadu Bawumia of mismanaging the economy and inflicting hardship on the citizens.

The mockery of Maguire came at a time when the England international was going through arguably the worst period of his career as a United player.

However, in a similar debate over the 2024 budget in the Ghana parliament on Tuesday, MP Adongo said Maguire had “turned the corner” and he took back his earlier statement, per ESPN UK.

“I now apologise to Harry Maguire,” Isaac Adongo said. “Today Maguire has turned the corner and is a transformational footballer… now scoring goals for Manchester United.”

Meanwhile, in his response to the Ghanaian politician’s apology, the English defender took to X (formerly Twitter) to accept it.

“MP Issac Adongo apology accepted. See you at Old Trafford soon”, Maguire replied to the post on Wednesday.

Harry Maguire has started in all of Manchester United’s last five games and has greatly improved this season.
