Kylian Mbappe named new captain of France national team

France manager, Didier Deschamp have announced Kylian Mbappe will be the new captain of France national team after Hugo Lloris retirement from international football.

Hugo Lloris announced the his retirement from international football in January leading after France to be runners-up of the 2022 World Cup. He had also lead France their 2018 World Cup win.

France head coach, Didier Deschamps have now announced Kylian Mbappe to be the team’s new captain while Atletico Madrid Antonio Griezmann would be the vice-captain.

Speaking in an interview with TF1, Didier Deschamp said;

“Kylian Mbappé is the new captain of the Blues. Antoine Griezmann is the vice-captain. Kylian meets all the boxes to have this responsibility. On the field as in group life, by being a unifying element.”

Kylian Mbappe, 24, have netted 36 times in 66 appearances for France, including a superb performance that saw him win the golden boot at the 2022 World Cup, scoring 8 goals that includes a hattrick in the final. Antonio Griezmann have scored 42 goals in 117 appearances for France.

Mbappe will captain France in the coming Euro 2024 qualification match against The Netherlands and Republic of Ireland.
