How does Mauricio Pochettino fits into Chelsea job?

Maurico Pochettino is an Argentine football manager and former player. He has reportedly put pen to paper in a two year deal to become Chelsea manager.

A swipe at Maurico Pochettino’s managerial career

Maurico Pochettino started his managerial career at Espanyol in late January, 2009. He was the third head coach of the club in a single season, he joined the club sitting in the relegation zone and he saved them from being relegated that year. After a quite good spell at Espanyol, he left the club in 2012 by mutual consent.

Maurico Pochettino became the new Head Coach of Southampton on the 18th of January, 2013. In his first full season at Southampton, he led the Saints to 8th position, helping them achieve their highest points tally in the Premier League.

He joined Tottenham Hotspur in May, 2014 after a remarkable season with Southampton. He was Tottenham’s tenth manager in 12 years and he was Tottenham’s Head Coach for half a decade, the longest serving Tottenham manager in the 20th century.

During his 5-year stint at Spurs, he turned Tottenham to title contenders in the 2015/16 PL season which was unbelievably won by Leicester City. In the 2016/17 PL season, he oversaw Spurs as they grab their highest points tally and position in a 38-game system Premier League season. They were also unbeaten at home that season.

Pochettino also led Spurs to the UEFA Champions League final which they lost to Liverpool in 2019. Moreover, he was sacked 5 months later after a poor start to the 2019/20 PL season. In his first season at Spurs, he was praised for converting young players to regular first-team players, converting the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and also Eric Dier.

In the mid-season of the 2020/21 PL season, he was announced as the new Head Coach of french club PSG, replacing Thomas Tuchel. At PSG, he won the French Super Cup, Coupe de France and the French Ligue 1. He was dismissed in 2022 after winning his first ever league title.

Now, Maurico Pochettino looks set to become the new Head Coach of Chelsea and many are worried if he is the right man for the club that needs resurgence.

Chelsea’s worst ever Premier League season in the 21st century has finally come to an end with the club finishing 12th and outside Europe next season.

Well, Maurico Pochettino loves high-pressing football and also loves building the game from the back and that could help this Chelsea side, his style of quick-pressing usually help him in hectic atmospheres and big matches. He is also interested in young talents and the likes of Conor Gallagher, Noni Madueke, Mudryk, Datro Fofona, Wesley Fofona and the rest could deliver under him.
