Manuel Ugarte is an Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for
Sporting Lisbon and the Uruguay National Team.
The 22-year old suddenly became a highly rated midfielder after he joined Sporting Lisbon for a
fee worth up to €6.5m from Famalicão. He has only spent barely a couple of years with Ruben
Amorim’s Sporting Lisbon and he is attracting interest from top clubs including Paris Saint
Germain, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and others.
Manuel Ugarte came through Fénix’s youth academy, being promoted to the first-team in 2016.
At the end of the year 2021, he joined Portuguese club Famalicão. Following an impressive
half-season, Ugarte signed for fellow Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon, winning the Taça da Liga
in his first season.
Manuel Ugarte is gradually becoming a regular player in the Uruguay National Team and with
Marcelo Bielsa becoming the new Head Coach, he will definitely improve more with the National
Team.
Manuel Ugarte is a defensively focused player, he dominates the defensive and it makes him
the most hardworking player on the pitch most times. He creates a lot of tackles per 90 minutes
including blocks, and a superb 2.18 interceptions per game. He’s also very brilliant in the air and
he is always winning his aerial challenges, that is why everyone wants the Uruguayan.
AllSoccer understands that Manuel Ugarte is very close to joining Paris Saint Germain in the
summer for a certain undisclosed fee.
