Meet the player killed for scoring an own goal

The most heart breaking moment in the history of Colombian football was when their legendary player, Andres Escobar Saldarriaga was shot dead as a result of own goal. During his professional career, he played as a defender for Atlético Nacional, BSC Young Boys, and the Colombia national team.

He scored an own goal in the 1994 FIFA world cup which led the team to fall out of the race. On 2nd July 1994, he was murdered as a retaliation for having scored an own goal. Many Colombian players were so sad because he was an icon in the history of Colombian football.
