Lionel Messi has repeated an Argentine penalty miss history, where they miss a penalty in the third game and go on to win the World Cup.

Argentina came out as group C leaders after beating Mexico and Poland 2-0 each in their second and third group stage game, after falling short to Saudi Arabia 2-1 in the first leg.

The match against Poland was the deciding match for Argentina, with a win guaranteeing a qualification into the round of 16.

With 5 minutes of second half play left, Argentina won a penalty after Poland goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny had a hit on Lionel Messi.
