Modric’s Ballon d’OR was meant for Hazard – Joe Cole

Modric’s Ballon d’OR was meant for Hazard – Joe Cole

Former Chelsea player, Joe Cole claimed Luka Modric Ballon d’OR was meant to be for Eden Hazard.

Hazard was crowned the player to put anend to the long reign of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

This however couldn’t come through for the Belgian who has retired from professional football at the age of 32.

Hazard had all the expertise to be the best player in the world but couldn’t clinch the individual title that could put him in that status quo even if it’s for a year.

Joe Cole has blamed this on Hazard’s laziness. Stressing that if he had lived his life like that of Cristiano Ronaldo who took ice bath at 1am, he would have been named amongst the best.

The Chelse cult hero also pointed at Luka Modric’s 2018 Ballon d’OR win being meant for Eden Hazard.

He should have been the best player in the world. That little spell where Luka Modric won the Ballon d’Or – that should have been Eden Hazard. He couldn’t have lived a life like Cristiano Ronaldo. You know, ice baths at lam and all that… that’s not him. If he had, he probably would have won every personal award out there. But Eden did things his way.

Hazard was undoubtedly one of the best players at the 2018 World Cup. However, Modric helping his country reach their first ever World Cup final gave him a bigger edge to clinch the award.
