Premier League is hailed to be the best football league in Europe and the world at large. The league holds some of football’s best and finest players.

With great talents presence, the English Premier League players are handsomely paid. Though this doesn’t justify the fact that some are paid more than the value they offer.

This article details five (5) most overpaid players in the Premier League.

1. Jesse Lingard (£200,000) – Nottingham Forest

Former Manchester United player, Jesse Lingard moved to Nottingham Forest after they gained promotion to the Premier League. Hoping to get an experienced Premier League regular who can lead the team, Jesse Lingard who has struggled for the past seasons was signed with a weekly wage of £200,000 a week, making him by far the highest paid player in the team.

Lingard has failed to make any solid impact on the team and has since been dropped to the bench. He gets the fattest account weekly but does the least work.

2. Jadon Sancho (£350,000) – Manchester United

Jadon Sancho was one of the most looked after player when he arrived from Borrusia Dortmund. Upon arrival a different package was delivered. A drastic reduction from his finesse football and style of play when he was in Germany plus a new introduction of frequent injuries, sadly.

His poor form cost him his place at the England’s World Cup team. Despite his poor performances, Sancho is the the second highest paid player in Manchester United and one of the highest in the Premier League.

3. Enzo Fernandez (£315,000) – Chelsea

Enzo Fernandez hype tripled after he became pivotal for Argentina World Cup win in Qatar, 2022 and emerging the young player of the tournament. Having spent just six months in Europe after signing for Benfica from Rivers Plate, Enzo gained massive interest and landed at Chelsea for a mega fee and a bag-full of salary.

Enzo saw himself skyrocket to be one of the highest earners at the London club. He earns £315,000 weekly and £16,380,000 annually.

4. Raheem Sterling (£325,000) – Chelsea

No doubt Raheem Sterling has been one of the finest players in the Premier League but the winger’s ratio has depreciated massively since he arrived Chelsea. Sterling have failed to impact his Chelsea side and he’s sometimes pointed to be the reason for Chelsea’s absence in the Premier League this season.

Sterling is however the highest earner in Chelsea and one of the highest in the Premier League. He earns £325,000 weekly and £16,900,000 annually.

5. David De Gea (£375,000) – Manchester United

No doubts the surprise on the list. However, David De Gea have proven to be over paid with his continuous run of blunders in the Premier League. Despite his experience and genuine talent, the Spaniard have caused blunders that have seen his team loss matches and sometimes cost them competition hopes.

David De Gea is the highest paid goalkeeper in the Premier League and one of the top earning goalkeeper in world football. He earns £375,000 weekly and £19,700,000 annually.
