Police use tear gas to separate Roma and Lazio fans ahead of clash this afternoon

Roma and Lazio clash for the third time this season with Lazio having the upper hand in the fixture. Tempers flared as fans gathered ahead of the game as police needed to use tear gas to separate Roma and Lazio fans clash.

The reverse fixture ended in a 0-0 draw between the two sides at Stadio Olimpico. Lazio however beat Roma in the quarter finals of the Copa Italia in January.

The fans of both sides are fired up as the aim to spur their fans to victory in a bid to end the season on a high.

Roma are sat in fifth and need a victory to push for a spot in the Champion’s League places. The Giallorossi have endured a rollercoaster season that saw them fire Jose Mourinho in January.

Daniele De Rossi came in to steady the ship. He returned to the side he enjoyed a prolonged spell with as a player, and immediately embarked on winning. They have only lost once with him in the league which was to leaders Inter Milan. They are also through to the quarter finals of the Europa league.

Lazio on the other hand have not enjoyed the best of the football season. They are hoping to manage to get any form of European football at the end of the season.

There is clearly a lot more riding on this fixture and every person connected with both clubs understand that.

Hopefully both sets of players can clash on the field and earn bragging rights in a sportsmanlike manner.
