PSG seeking to build a completely new stadium after decision to leave Parc des Princes

PSG have decided to build a completely new stadium instead of buying and renovating an old one.

The Paris based club have already started deliberating on the site to choose for their construction with the club favoring sites close to their current training facility.

The club announced last month that they will be leaving Parc des Princes after a long stand off with the city council over it’s purchase.

The stadium which has been their home ground since 1974 is owned by the Paris city council who have matched every move made by PSG with resistance.

The Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo insisted that there will be no sale of the Parcs des Princes despite welcoming PSG’s renovation plans.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi responded by stating that the club’s time at the ground is over. Speaking to journalists at a UEFA congress last month, he said:

“It’s too easy to say now that the stadium is not for sale anymore. We know what we want, we wasted years to try and buy it. It’s easier for us now, we know what we want. It’s over for us. We want to move out of the Parc.”

PSG have decided to build a completely new stadium

As per goal, PSG have now formally agreed to build a new stadium and have begun making moves towards that.

PSG’s general secretary has already sent a letter to Île-de-France’s planning permission (SDRIF-E) indicating it’s intention to build new stadium within a 20km radius of the city.

PSG’s deal to remain at the Parc runs out in 2043 but now have to kickstart the process of moving to a new home.

PSG need a new face to their project

It appears that PSG will not only be losing their home but also the face of their project in Kylian Mbappé.

The club have already begun searching for a new face to their project though, with Mbappé’s move to Real Madrid all but confirmed.

They have already been linked with moves for Vinicius jr, Marcus Rashford, Luis Diaz and Lamine Yamal.
