Awarding Qatar the World Cup was a mistake – Sepp Blatter admits

Former FIFA President, Sepp Blatter has admitted that awarding Qatar the host of 2022 World Cup was a mistake as the competition kickoff date draws closer.

Qatar is set to host the World Cup for the first time ever and though they are not a footballing nation, the country has tried to keep everything in place for the big event.

Qatar won the right to host the World biggest event during Sepp Blatter reign as FIFA President and immediately started preparations for it.

The country built eight stadiums infused with air-conditions to help stabilized the hotness of its environment that footballers and traveling fans might not be used to.

Their were sad news of workers who helped in building the stadiums dying yet the country had no remorse about it. The situation has made some big football names disassociate themselves from the tournament, example is Manchester United legend, Eric Cantona.

In a new interview, Sepp Blatter who was ripped off his position as FIFA President over series of corruption cases admitted it was a mistake handing Qatar the right to host the competition.

The election of Qatar for the World Cup was a mistake and I assume my responsibility as FIFA President at that time, Sepp Blatter said.

It was assumed that Blatter rigged the election process in favor of Qatar over financial backings he received from the country.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off on 20th November.
