Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya was substituted at halftime in Spain’s loss to Colombia. He came into the Spain XI for just his fourth appearance as a result of tough competition for a place between the sticks for La Roja.

What happened?

Raya started versus Colombia but had to be brought off, not because of an injury but as a pre-planned move.

Spain boast some of the best goalkeepers in Europe within their Ranks. Raya was brought off to hand a debut to Alex Remiro, Real Soceidad goalkeeper.

The substitute goalkeeper would go on to concede the only goal of the game to Munoz in the 60th minute.

 

What next for Raya?

 

Spain have one more friendly before the end of the international break and Raya may get more minutes in that. It is a massive one against Brazil.

He has looked sharp in training for Spain as shown by footage of him ticking Spain’s rondo along. Raya could be seen popping of passes quickly, proving why he is Arsenal’s number one because of his feet.

After that, it’s back to club football for Raya as he aims helps to help Arsenal to the end of the season.

Raya was substituted at halftime versus Colombia but he is the undisputed number one for Arsenal in all competitions.

Raya and Arsenal will have eyes on the Premier League or the Champion’s league. They may even have eyes on both as Raya brazenly claimed after that penalty shoot out win versus Porto.

His penalty heroics in that game sent Arsenal into the quarter finals of the UCL for the first time in 14 years.

Arsenal face old nemesis Bayern in the UCl quarter final. Before that, they take on Manchester City in a mammoth top of the table clash at the Etihad.

The game at the Etihad is likely to decide where the title will head come the end of the season.
