Teams heading the New European Super League

Teams heading the New European Super League

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are the three football teams heading the bid to launch a new European Super League to overwrite the UEFA Champions League.

The three teams according to The Telegraph have contacted over 50 teams as they hope to bring a new European competition to existence.

Those backing the new European football project revealed they would be kickstarting a new version of the European Super Cup that was eliminated two years ago. The competition will involve 60 to 80 teams and have no permanent member. The best clubs in different leagues will be selected, with each club playing a minimum of 14 matches.

The headers of the proposed new competition claimed the project was birthed as a result of a hearty conversation held with European clubs on the financial problems they face and how they can tackle it.

Competition proposers, A22 and ESL have their eyes on the wealth of the Premier League, it’s dominance of the transfer market, players choosing to play in the EPL above other leagues and the ill effect it has on other leagues across Europe who are poorly televised.

Details on how the teams would qualify and be dropped out of the competition have not been made known.

The European Super League won the case against UEFA to begin the competition after adjusting their formerly stated rule. The rule was made to have the founding teams which includes six Premier League clubs, (Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur) in addition to Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus have automatic qualifications to the competition. This rule is now scrapped.

The competition heavily backed by Real Madrid President, Florentino Perez claims their would be a great compensation for teams who fails to qualify for European competitions if they new European Super League is given the legal right to start.

Football players had earlier kick against the competition when the plan was made known earlier. La Liga President, Javier Tebas also kicked against the competition of the current wave of news about it;

“The Super League is the wolf, who today disguises himself as a granny to try to fool European football, but his nose and his teeth are very big. Four divisions in Europe? Of course the [top division] for them [the founding clubs], as in the 2019 plan. Governance of the clubs? Of course only from the big ones.”
