Thierry Henry is backing Arsenal to win the UEFA Champion’s League this year ahead of other major favorites. The Arsenal legend chose Arsenal as the team he “wants” to win the title simply because they are in it.
He said this in the CBS sports studio working alongside pundits Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards. Henry went straight to choose a winner when asked to select the sides he expects to see in the final. He said:
“Oh me? I only care about Arsenal because they are in.
“So I’m going to go straight with the champion. The Arsenal. Bye, see you later.”
His comments prompted laughter from the others in the studio who thought his choice was hilarious. Jamie Carragher however admitted that the king can do what he wants, a statement that Henry affirmed.
“It’s what I want. It’s a trophy that we are missing, well we are not missing it, we have not been in it for a long time, we don’t have it, this is what I want.”
Arsenal face uphill task to make Champion’s League final
The gunners are currently in the quarter finals of the competition and have a Bayern-shaped hurdle to cross.
The first of the tie took place at the Emirates on Tuesday and it ended in a two all draw. Harry Kane returned and Serge Gnabry returned to haunt Arsenal by canceling our Saka’s early goal. It took a second half effort from Leandro Trossard to restore parity in the game. The return leg at the Allianz arena will be approached knowing that there is all left to play for.
After that, Arsenal face the unenviable task of beating one of Madrid or Manchester City in the semi final in order to book a place in the final.
However, Thierry Henry is backing Arsenal to win the UEFA Champion’s League this year ahead of other major favorites. Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are all favorites to win the title this year.
