Real Madrid versus Manchester City at the Bernabau yesterday gave us another champion’s classic. The match featured early goals and bangers serving up a thriller from start to finish. But where does Manchester City vs Real Madrid rank among UEFA Champion’s League’s classic matches?

1. Chelsea Vs Liverpool (4 – 4) – 2009

Chelsea came into the match already two goals up from the first leg at Anfield. Liverpool came racing out of the blocks in the second leg, and went 2-0 up in no time to draw level on aggregate before half time.

The second half saw more drama as Chelsea scored three to lead on the day. Liverpool scored twice late on to make it 4-3, retaining hopes of sealing the contest. It was not to be though as Lampard leveled the game with his second of the day to make it 4-4 on the night, and 7-5 on aggregate.

2. Manchester United vs Real Madrid (4 – 3)

In a thrilling match between Manchester United and Real Madrid, Ronaldo scored a hat-trick while David Beckham produced a masterpiece with a free kick goal and the winning goal.

The match ended in a 4-3 victory for Manchester United, but they were ultimately eliminated from the competition as they had lost 3-1 at the Bernabéu in the first leg.

3. Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur (4 – 3) – 2019

Tottenham Hotspur contributed to one of the greatest champion’s league campaigns in 2019.

The match produced one of UEFA Champion’s League’s classic matches in the all Premier League quarter final.

Tottenham lost to Manchester City on the night but went through to the semi’s on away goals after drawing 4-4 on aggregate.

4. Real Madrid vs Manchester City (3 – 3) – 2024

Bernardo Silva opened the scoring inside two minutes before we saw the lead change hands twice. It ended 3-3 because of sheer quality from both sides to equalize each time one side pulls ahead. Foden and Valverde were the main culprits, with both midfielders scoring absolute bangers on the night. A proper UEFA champion’s league classic this one.

5. Ajax vs Tottenham Hotspur (2 – 3) – 2019

Lukas Moura netted a second half hat trick to help Tottenham into the final of the champion’s league against a sensational Ajax side.

Tottenham were 3-0 down on aggregate by the time Moura started his second half rampage.

He scored his third with the last kick of the match to send Tottenham through to the final on away goals yet again.
