Shocking scenes at a soccer game between female teams in DR Congo have surfaced on the internet, after a male referee was attacked and chased down, following a denied penalty claim.

According to a viral clip making the rounds on social media, women soccer players from DC Motema Pembe targeted the match official on the pitch, with video footage showing five members of the team running after him following a seemingly controversial penalty decision in the game against TP Mazembe Women.

The referee somehow managed to break free from the initial attack, running off the field of play as he made his way onto the Athletics track but the chase after him continued, with several people coming in to avert the attack.

He then managed to escape for a brief period by running behind the dugout, but was again surrounded by the embittered female soccer players just outside the tunnel.
