English Premier League confirmed that Everton’s two-point deduction for breach of their Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The points deduction puts them in danger of relegation but, what other times have Everton been relegated before?
Everton initially faced a five-point deduction which reduced to two points after extenuating factors were considered.
Everton’s earlier 10 points deduction
A breach of the premier league’s profitability and sustainability rules saw Everton Deducted 10 points on the 17th of November, 2023.
An independent commission that sat on the case confirmed that Everton broke the rules while attempting to improve the clubs fortunes on the pitch.
In a nutshell, Everton were found to have overspent on players while failing to shell out unwanted ones.
After Everton’s appeal, a scheduled hearing which lasted three days was concluded in the first week of February. The ten points originally imposed on the club has been reduced.
Everton’s relegation threat following two points deduction
Everton faced threat of relegation before being hit by this latest two points penalty. That threat is now more real as the club are now only two points above the relegation drop. There are just seven games left of their season, with many potential banana-skin games to come.
They will need results to go their way in these concluding weeks if they are to avoid relegation. But it’s not something they haven’t faced before, or haven’t they?

As a matter of fact, Everton football club have been relegated before, on two occasions.
The first, in the 1929/1930 season. They finished 22nd in that campaign but managed to gain promotion at the first time of asking.
Everton suffered relegation for the second time in the 1950/1951 season after finishing bottom of the log.
