Where does Harry Kane’s statue rank among the ugliest seen in football?

 

Photos of Harry Kane’s statue have caused a stir on the internet with many regarding it as one of the ugliest statues in football. Waltham Forest council commissioned the statue in 2019. They kept it from the public when the plans to unveil it at chingford overground station fell through.

It joins a host of other statues created to honour players that have failed to impress supporters. So, where does Kane’s statue rank among the ugliest statues in football?

 

5. Harry Kane

After pictures of Harry Kane’s statue emerged online, fans haven’t stopped talking. Some fans suggest the ugliness of the statue is the reason it was kept in hiding for 5 years since it’s commission in 2019. Waltham Forest council spent €7200 on the statue on request by its citizens. Comments following its unveiling tells what everyone is thinking: The statue is a waste of money.

4. Luis Suarez

The former Barcelona and Liverpool’s  star’s statue was unveiled in his honour in 2016.

Alberto Morales Saravia sculpted the statue which can be seen in his hometown of Salto in Uruguay. It shows Suarez clad in a full Uruguay national team kit, with a hand raised in celebration.

 

3. Cristiano Ronaldo

Emmanuel Santos created two statues of Ronaldo within the space of a year and became an instant Internet sensation. It was the first effort though that earned him his stripes…. of ridicule. The burst was designed to be unveiled by the Madeira airport in honour of Cristiano Ronaldo but this is what we saw:

 

2. Mohammed Salah

Mohammed Salah for all his wonderful achievements has one of the ugliest statues in football.

Salah’s statue was unveiled in 2018 at a youth forum held in Egypt. It looked more like bobble head statue but without the spring. The statue created Mia Abdel Allah depicted a Salah celebration but with arms held apart.

 

1. Michael Essien

 

Michael Essien is one of the greatest midfielder in Africa judging by his achievements for club and country.

His statue merits the number one spot by virtue of it’s ugliness. There is nothing artistic about the statue and it doesn’t do justice to how highly Ghanaian rate Essien.  The former Chelsea holding midfielder deserves better for everything he achieved for his country and his club. The Ghanaian City of Kumasi unveiled the statue in his honor in 2018.
