Profiling Arsenal’s summer strike targets

Arsenal’s summer strike targets continue to grow as the summer transfer window gets closer. Arsenal have been linked with a host of strikers since the start of the season following a number of performances where they struggled for goals.

Gabriel Jesus whose injury record is well documented and Nkethia, deemed to be not good enough to start for a title chaser, are Arsenal’s current options. Harvetz has been signed to play in Midfield but has sometimes featured in attack.

The belief though is that Arsenal need a clinical number nine if they are to finally dethrone Manchester City as champions.

We profile Arsenal’s summer strike targets below and assess the likelihood of the signing coming to fruition.

Ivan Toney

Arsenal's summer strike targets

The 27-year-old has scored a couple of bangers on his return from his suspension this season. Toney is an intelligent player who doesn’t mind putting in a real shift when it comes to pressing and defending. He would certainly be a good option for Arsenal as he would bring goals and physicality to the team. Brentford manager has already announced that Toney would be leaving at the end of the season. So it’s just about paying the right money for a player who has already indicated an interest in moving to Arsenal.

Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko has been on the radar of several top clubs in Europe, including Manchester United and Chelsea. Sesko 6’4″, is an exciting talent, with a lot of potential. He shows real presence in the box and is also quick and strong. He has long been compared to Red Bull Salzburg’s former goal machine Haaland.

Sesko is under contract at RB Liepzig until 2028, so it may take a significant offer to get him to Arsenal. However, the Gunners have shown in recent years that they are willing to spend big money on young talents.

Likelihood: 2/5

Evan Ferguson

The Brighton & Hove Albion teenager burst on to the scenes last season with some brilliant performances. He scored ten goals and laid on two assists in 15 starts last season to back up his performances.

Ferguson is a versatile player who can play as a traditional number nine or in a wider role. He’s strong and quick, and uses both feet.

His stats for the high flying Brighton side have dropped this season, having scored just 6 goals this season. The same can be said of the whole Brighton team who this season have been rather inconsistent.

Pricing Ferguson from Brighton won’t be easy though as he recently signed a new deal until 2029. Brighton are also notorious for demanding the maximum for their players having sold the likes of Ben White, Cucurella and Caicedo for huge fees in recent seasons.

Victor Osimhen

Arsenal's summer strike targets

Victor Osimhen is the most coveted striker in world right now who is on the move. The Nigerian international has endured a tumultuous campaign with Napoli this season. He has still managed to score 11 goals in 15 Serie A appearances.

All eyes will be keen to see where Osimhen ends up in the summer after Napoli President announced he will leave at the end of the season.

Arteta has said that he only wants players that can improve his team and Osimhen fits into that category.

Arsenal are his best option if he is to move to England should they be in the running but he has also been linked to Chelsea and PSG.

Likelihood:  3/5

Viktor Gyökeres

Rumors of Arsenal’s link to Gyökeres broke recently. It remains to be seen if these rumors hold any water. He is absolutely tearing up the Portuguese league at the moment but he won’t come cheap.
